  • the redemption of a prisoner, slave, or kidnapped person, of captured goods, etc., for a price.
  • a means of deliverance or rescue from punishment for sin, especially the payment of a redemptive fine.
  • a sum of money or other payment demanded or paid for the release of a prisoner.

Synonym – deliverance, liberation, release, bail, retrieve, emancipate, rescue, save. 

Antonym – contain, punish, impound, shackle, trap.
